Take a look inside a bold and colorful interior
See what’s possible
The 1965 home came their way through a personal connection and wasn’t even listed online. During the viewing, they didn’t see a dated house, they saw endless possibilities for a new interior style. By renovating smartly and carefully planning the layout of the living room, kitchen, and dining area, they created a modern interior with character. The goal was to craft a warm, inviting home that suits their lifestyle and reflects her vision for interior design.
"A well interior starts with seeing the possibilities."
Live first, choose later
A common mistake during a renovation is deciding too quickly on the layout, colors, and furniture. Baukje deliberately chose to take it slow: live in the space first, then make choices. How do the traffic flows work? Where does the daylight fall? What’s the best spot for the sofa or dining table? By truly experiencing the space, a logical design emerged, balancing functionality and atmosphere. Her advice for anyone renovating or moving is to live in your home first, and only then make final decisions about your interior, flooring, wall color, and lighting.
"A home should not only be beautiful, but also feel logical."

Color as a signature
While many interiors focused on black and white for years, Baukje increasingly embraced color at home. Think bold wall paint, patterned wallpaper, colorful accessories, and design furniture that adds character to a space. Her interior shows that a colorful home doesn’t have to feel chaotic as long as you work with a strong foundation. By investing in timeless design pieces, a sense of calm is created, allowing you to experiment with trends, décor, and seasonal styling. Her key tip is simple: just dare. Painting a wall or trying out a new color palette is less daunting than you think.
"Color brings atmosphere, character, and personality to your interior."
In the living room, the modular Finn sofa in Simply Beige serves as the neutral anchor. A deliberate choice within the interior design, a calm sofa in a timeless fabric creates balance in a colorful living space. The sloping backrest aligns perfectly with the window and fireplace, making the seating area feel like one cohesive unit. When choosing a sofa the most important piece of furniture in the living room, Baukje believes it’s essential to make it cozy with cushions, throws, rugs, and decorative accessories.
Age adds character
A personal interior isn’t just about new furniture or the latest trends. Blue plates from her grandparents were given a prominent place on the wall, adding emotional value to the space. An old wooden beam was repurposed as a support post, and an existing cabinet was refurbished instead of replaced. This mix of old and new creates warmth, sustainability, and character. Finally, Baukje emphasizes the importance of a well-thought-out lighting plan. The right combination of ambient, accent, and task lighting ensures that colors, materials, and furniture truly shine.
