Thuis in een starterswoning

Feeling at home in a Starters house

A starter home, a dream for many. But Jeroen managed to secure his very first newly built apartment. With smart choices, he made optimal use of the available space and decorated it entirely to his taste. We were invited to take a look inside.

First Home, First Personal Style

In May, Jeroen finally received the keys to his new apartment, a long-awaited milestone after more than two years since signing up. Like many new-build projects, choices had to be made from a blueprint, without ever having seen the apartment in real life. “The first viewing moments were really important to get a feel for the space,” he explains. And that feeling was immediately right. It became the place where he wanted to come home and relax, right in the village where he has lived his whole life. Close to work, in a familiar environment, but now with a space of his own.

A Neutral Canvas with Personality

Jeroen knew exactly what he wanted: a light, airy interior, far from the cliché of a “typical male apartment.” The combination of Scandinavian style and Japandi influences created the perfect balance of calm, simplicity, and warmth. “I found a lot of inspiration through social media, and in the end, I arranged everything entirely to my own taste.”
Even the champagne bottles have a unique story and are proudly displayed on the wall. The Frame TV also plays an active role in the interior, with the artwork it displays changing regularly with the seasons. It’s the details that make the space truly his own.

A large sofa in a small living room? Absolutely!

When it came to the seating area, Jeroen knew one thing for sure: a good sofa is key to both the look and the comfort of a home. Through Instagram, he discovered By SIDDE, and soon after, he visited their showroom in Eerbeek.

"I was immediately excited. The atmosphere, the concept, the convenience. It just felt right."

He chose the Finn modular sofa in the color Simply Beige. Even though the living room isn’t particularly large, the Set 2 configuration fit perfectly. “Because it’s made of separate elements, you can really adapt it to the space you have.” The result is a spacious sofa that doesn’t feel too big, but instead fills the room in a natural way. “I prefer sitting on the lounge section in the corner. It’s perfect for watching TV or just relaxing after work.”

Jeroen’s Advice for Designing Your First Home

Although this apartment is his first home, Jeroen is already thinking cautiously about the future. “Of course, I hope to buy a bigger house someday, but this style will stay.” His taste is timeless, yet he finds it important to evolve with the times when it comes to materials, colors, and accents.

  • Modular thinking: let your modular sofa fit your space, not the other way around.
  • Keep the base light, and add character with art, accessories, or personal items.
  • Combine clean lines with rounded shapes for a playful yet balanced look.
  • Invest in furniture you can take with you to your next home.
